Keira Jett '18 - Voice
Keira Jett graduated from Lawrence University with dual degrees in voice performance and gender studies. During her time at Lawrence, she featured as a soloist in works such as Handel's Messiah and Hailstork's "I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes." Her scholarly focus continues to be on equitable communities and the connective power of the arts. She has performed with the Sphinx Organization's Exigence Vocal Ensemble and worked closely with the Center for Deep Listening in Troy, NY. In 2018, Keira co-created and premiered the song cycle "A Mother's Love" with composer Evan Williams, exploring the history of American slavery, family separation, and abolition.
At the Community Music School, Keira has previously served as a student teacher and a Girl Choir ensemble manager, and she has found great joy working with the summer music camps. Her background in clarinet and cello fostered a great love of music theory and many differing genres of music. Outside the Community Music School, Keira is working with the Boys and Girls Club to facilitate safe spaces for young people to create art and music. She is exploring a love of pop and musical theatre in addition to classical singing, and she is working with a small treble ensemble to challenge the boundaries between genres and explore the healing, connective power of singing.
