Shattuck Hall 156, Lawrence Conservatory of Music

Rehearsals: Mondays, 7:00–8:30 p.m.
September 14–November 16
January 4–March 15*
*No rehearsal January 18.

The Lawrence Community Symphonic Band is open to dedicated woodwind, brass, and percussion players in grades 7-12; no audition is required. Band members should have at least two years of experience on their instrument. The ensemble provides students the opportunity to prepare and perform challenging band literature and promotes the development of accountability, patience, confidence, artistry, and community. Symphonic Band rehearses weekly and performs in November and March of each year with the Community Music School's Wind Ensemble.

The Lawrence Community Symphonic Band is an appropriate first step for students who wish to play in the Lawrence Community Wind Ensemble, our auditioned, honors band.

Students registered for Community Music School ensembles are also expected to participate in a curricular (during the school day, for credit) performing musical ensemble when available; Symphonic Band should not substitute for curricular music programs.

Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, Symphonic Band will not take place during the fall semester of the 2020-21 academic year. We'll continue to monitor the data put forward by scientists, and, if it seems likely that we can return second semester, will contact interested students via email with more information.
