Rehearsals: Mondays, 7:00–8:30 p.m.
September 13–November 29
January 3–March 14 (no rehearsal Jan. 17)

The Lawrence Community Symphonic Band is open to dedicated woodwind, brass, and percussion players in grades 7-12; no audition is required. Band members should have at least two years of experience on their instrument. The ensemble provides students the opportunity to prepare and perform challenging band literature and promotes the development of patience, confidence, artistry, and community. Symphonic Band rehearses weekly and performs in November and March of each year with the Community Music School's Wind Ensemble.

The Lawrence Community Symphonic Band is an appropriate first step for students who wish to play in the Lawrence Community Wind Ensemble, our auditioned, honors band.

Students registered for Community Music School ensembles are also expected to participate in a curricular (during the school day, for credit) performing musical ensemble when available; Symphonic Band should not substitute for curricular music programs.

Please visit our COVID-19 Protocol page for the most current safety information for the 2021-22 academic year.

Registration

Registration is open for the second semester; click the button below for more information and signup. While we typically only enroll students in the fall, we recognize that this has been a year of constant change for everyone as we all slowly return to in-person activities. We’re excited to offer local middle and high school musicians the opportunity to join (or rejoin!) our musical community mid-year.

Registration Form

Tuition assistance is available to families who demonstrate financial need.

Policies and Required Materials

Registration in an Community Music School program indicates your understanding and acceptance of our guidelines. In addition to our guidelines, please click through the subjects below to read about Symphonic Band-specific policies and required materials.

Google Classroom
Lawrence Community Music School youth ensembles utilize Google Classrooms to communicate with students and their families. Registered families will receive an email with an invite link and instructions on how to join and use their choir’s Google Classroom. Families who do not have a Google account can create a free account using an existing email. With parent/guardian permission, the invite link also may be used by the student if they wish to join the Classroom with their own Google account. (Please note that some school accounts block access to Classrooms outside their organization for the students’ safety.)

Symphonic Band staff will post resources, practice notes, and announcements in the Classroom. Families are responsible for checking their email and Classroom for up-to-date ensemble information.

  • All folders and music are the property of the Lawrence Community Music School and should be returned at the end of each semester or when the student leaves the ensemble.

Concert Attire
