January 4–March 15*
*No rehearsal January 18.

The Lawrence Community Wind Ensemble is open by audition to advanced woodwind, brass, and percussion players in grades 10-12 who love playing and exploring challenging band literature. The ensemble provides an environment for students to experience masterpieces of wind literature and to work toward a goal well beyond the accepted norm. Wind Ensemble rehearses weekly and performs two joint concerts with the Lawrence Community Symphonic Band in November and March of each year.

Involvement in the program is invaluable for students who desire to continue their musical journey into college and allows them to stand out as passionate musicians and dedicated members of an honors ensemble. The Lawrence Community Wind Ensemble also offers students an array of non-musical benefits and life skills, including the development of accountability, patience, confidence, community, and artistry.

Students registered for Community Music School ensembles are also expected to participate in a curricular (during the school day, for credit) performing musical ensemble when available; Wind Ensemble should not substitute for curricular music programs.

Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, Wind Ensemble will not take place during the fall semester of the 2020-21 academic year. We'll continue to monitor the data put forward by scientists, and, if it seems likely that we can return January, we'll schedule auditions for Wind Ensemble in November or so.
